It was a mixed weekend for Irish sport after Ireland beat Andorra 2-0 on Friday evening and the national rugby team suffered a heart-breaking 22-10 loss to Wales in the quarter finals of the Rugby World Cup. The Irish World Cup dream in New Zealand is now over, however the National football team still retains hope in qualifying for next Summer’s European championships in Poland and Ukraine. Russia sit on top of the group with 20 points, with Ireland on 18 and Armenia on 17 points with just one match remaining in the group.
A single point would most likely see Russia through to the tournament, who play Andorra on Tuesday night. Giovanni’s Trapattoni’s Irish team face Armenia on Tuesday night in Dublin with the knowledge that a draw will be enough to secure a play-off place- where France could be a potential side that Ireland meet. After recording 8 successive clean sheets, the boys in green will be confident that they can produce the required result to see them through.
The Irish team was announced at 2pm on Monday and the only major absence from the squad is captain and record goal scorer Robbie Keane who will miss the match with a damaged abductor muscle. Richard Dunne returns to the side after suspension.
Here at The Physio Company we would like to congratulate the Irish Rugby Team on their efforts in New Zealand and also wish the National Football Team the very best of luck in the final qualifying match tomorrow night.
